Iconic Dunedin band The Chills have announced an Australian tour as they continue to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their classic album Soft Bomb.

One of the greatest New Zealand bands of all time, Martin Phillipps and co. have built up a cult following over three decades.

Primarily known for jangle-pop but equally adept at crossing into other genres, The Chills have endured thanks to sublime hits like “Pink Frost”, “Heavenly Pop Hit”, and “I Love My Leather Jacket”.

Led by the consistent Phillipps, The Chills have continued producing sublime albums, including last year’s Scatterbrain, which reached the top five of the New Zealand Albums Chart. It brought the band – fuelled by Phillipps’ endless creative desire – into yet another decade of their illustrious career.

“Musically, it’s in a similar class to all his work… melodic, melancholic with just a twist of hope, while lyrically reflecting what he’s endured and what he sees around him,” Stuff wrote in a highly positive review of Scatterbrain at the time.

Following a tour of the US this year, which ends in Boston at the end of next week, The Chills will head to Australia next February, beginning in Brisbane on Wednesday, February 15th and culminating in Melbourne on Saturday, February 18th (see full dates below).

The band have spent 2022 celebrating the 30th anniversary of their 1992 album Soft Bomb, which was a chart-topper in their home country. Australian fans, though, can expect to hear songs from across their lengthy career.
