The Chats are back, and they’ve got plenty to get off their chests.
Almost five years after telling the world to Get Fucked, the Sunshine Coast punk rockers have announced their third studio album, Half Cut, alongside a massive 17-date Australian tour and a band-new single, “Off It”.
Set for release on March 5th, 2027 via Virgin Records, Half Cut marks the trio’s first album since 2022’s Get Fucked, with the band promising a slightly more revealing side of their signature no-nonsense punk rock.
“Half Cut is a fun rock and roll record, but it’s maybe a little more open than stuff we’ve written in the past,” frontman Eamon Sandwith explains. “I definitely hesitate to use the word ‘mature,’ but it’s a bit of a progression, I’d say.”
Recorded at Los Angeles’ Maple Sound Studio with Frenzal Rhomb’s Jay Whalley, the album finds The Chats pushing their sound into new territory while keeping their distinctly Australian sense of humour firmly intact.
With track titles including “Half Arsed”, “Hanging Shit”, and “Brown Bottle Flu”, the band certainly haven’t abandoned the irreverence that made them famous.
However, beneath the familiar chaos, Half Cut reportedly explores everything from hangovers and confrontation to reconciliation and rehabilitation, offering a more introspective look at life through the eyes of the now 27-year-old musicians.

The album’s opening track, “Off It”, arrives today (October 28th) alongside a suitably chaotic new music video, giving fans their first taste of what’s to come.
It’s been a busy few years for the band, whose international profile has continued to grow since their breakout 2017 hit “Smoko” became a viral sensation. From sharing stages with Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters, and The Hives to touring extensively across multiple continents, The Chats have come a long way from their Sunshine Coast beginnings.
Before Half Cut arrives next year, they’ll return to Australian stages for an extensive run of intimate headline shows, kicking off with two nights at Brisbane’s Crowbar on November 13th and 14th.
The 17-date tour will see the band play multiple nights at smaller venues, including Sydney’s Crowbar, Melbourne’s The Tote, and Perth’s Rosemount Hotel, alongside stops in regional Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, and Western Australia.
The run wraps up in Perth on December 13th, giving fans a chance to catch The Chats up close before the release of their new record.

‘Half Cut’ is out March 5th, 2027 via Virgin Records.
