The Buoys are back with “Kill You Back”, a self-assured rock track built for the stage.

After having spent much of last year touring Lustre across UK and Europe, “Kill You Back” marks the Australian all-woman indie rock band’s first new music of 2026.

Lead singer and guitarist Zoe Catterall says the song was inspired by longtime admiration for Illuminati Hotties front-woman Sarah Tudzin, whose unpredictable songwriting helped shape the session.

“I’ve been sooo obsessed with Illuminati Hotties for years now, no one can write and produce chaotic sounds and ideas like Sarah Tudzin, what a legend. I came into the session with a plan to write about being murdered and haunting my murderer,” Catterall says.

Rather than dialling back the concept, the band leaned further into it.

“The concept itself was a bit zany, so it felt necessary to ask ourselves in that moment; what would Sarah Tudzin do? If it sounds chaotic and weird, that’s cause it’s meant to be!”

The single follows 2025’s “Bitch” and arrives ahead of another huge year for the band, including a support slot with Foo Fighters at their Newcastle stadium show this November.

Last year, The Buoys made Rolling Stone AU/NZ’s Future of Music 2025 list. At the time, the band reflected on a breakout year that saw debut album Lustre land in the ARIA Charts, earn a triple j Album of the Year nomination, and take them on sold-out headline tours in Australia and overseas.

That momentum has only continued. Over the past year, The Buoys have taken Lustre across Europe, playing headline shows across Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, and the Netherlands, as well as multiple performances at Hamburg’s Reeperbahn Festival.

Alongside their upcoming Foo Fighters support slot, the band have shared stages with Arctic Monkeys, IDLES, Hoodoo Gurus, and The Dandy Warhols.

The Buoy’s “Kill You Back” is out now.
