With just one month to go until The Avalanches make their live return with a headline date in their hometown of Melbourne, the world-renowned duo are set to spread their cosmic message elsewhere with shows in Sydney and Brisbane being announced this morning.
Originally planning to tour in 2020 to coincide with the release of their Australian Music Prize-winning third album, We Will Always Love You, The Avalanches announced back in December that they would be returning to the live stage in April with a special headline performance at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl. While fans had hoped for further shows to be announced, the current COVID climate made it unclear whether such shows would be possible in the near future.
Now though, the pair have revealed that they will indeed be heading further north, with dates in Brisbane and Sydney now being announced for April and May, respectively.
One week after their Melbourne show, The Avalanches will travel up to Queensland for a show at Brisbane’s Riverstage on Friday, April 30th, before hitting up Sydney close to a month later for a performance at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Thursday, May 27th.
Speaking to Rolling Stone last year, the group explained that the absence of touring had taken its toll on them as artists and people, with their most recent album arriving faster than expected so that it could receive a proper debut on the live stage.
“We wanted to do an album quickly so we could tour again and just be a normal band and feel the energy of the crowd and all that sort of thing,” noted Tony Di Blasi. “So obviously that getting taken away was hard, but you just have to deal with it.
“So many other people in so many different industries have had to deal with the same thing, so we’re just one of many.”
Tickets to The Avalanches newly-announced shows are on sale from 10am local time on Thursday, March 25th, with a pre-sale beginning 24 hours earlier.
