The Amity Affliction have revealed the special guests joining them for their one-off Sydney Opera House Forecourt show later this year.
Melbourne metalcore act Thornhill and Brisbane alternative-punk outfit WAAX will support The Amity Affliction when they take over the Opera House steps on Saturday, December 12th, as part of the venue’s ‘On The Steps’ series.
The show will be The Amity Affliction’s only Australian headline appearance of 2026 and arrives at the end of a massive year for the band, which has included the release of their ninth studio album, House of Cards, alongside extensive tour across Australia and overseas.
The Opera House date will bring the band’s new material together with songs from across their catalogue in one of the more unusual settings Australian heavy music has occupied.
Joining them are Thornhill, who have spent much of the past year continuing their rise both at home and overseas.
The ARIA Award-winning band released their latest album, Bodies, in 2025 and have since taken it around the world, including touring North America with Sleep Token, completing a major Australian headline run, and appearing at festivals throughout the European summer.
WAAX, meanwhile, returned in 2026 with their third album, Angel’s Mess, released independently in March through Drunk On Power Records.

Led by songwriter and vocalist Maz DeVita, the Meanjin project used the album to reconnect with the energy that established WAAX as one of the city’s standout alternative exports while pushing into a new phase creatively.
The December show brings together three Australian acts from different corners of the heavy and alternative worlds for one of the final major dates on The Amity Affliction’s 2026 calendar.
The show will be the band’s first Australian headline appearance following the departure of drummer Joe Longobardi in June.
He announced the move on social media, sharing the statement:
“After 8 years I have decided to leave The Amity Affliction. I feel extremely grateful and fortunate to have spent those years with the band. I wish Johnny, Dan and Joel along with the crew nothing but the very best moving forward,” he wrote on Instagram.
“It’s been an incredible journey. Thank you all for the love. See you out there.”
