More than three years after the track first went viral, Tash Sultana has offered up a cover of “Through the Valley”, from the soundtrack to the highly-anticipated PlayStation 4 game, The Last of Us Part II.

First released in December of 2016, “Through the Valley” soundtracked the first-look trailer that fans received of the forthcoming game. Serving as the sequel to the critically-acclaimed 2013 title, the trailer quickly amassed millions of views, with the original song even managing to hit the top of the UK Spotify charts.

Now, with the game finally released today, Australia’s own Tash Sultana has shared their own cover of the track by way of a partnership with PlayStation Australia and Sony Music Australia.

A faithful recreation of the tune, the cover sees Tash leading the track with an acoustic guitar, with layered vocals and a rumbling bassline helping to flesh out the lonesome nature of the original.

“‘Through the Valley’ became a #1 hit in several markets when featured in the 2016 reveal trailer for The Last of Us Part II,” explained Patrick Lagana, Director of Marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment Australia.

“So recreating this with a phenomenal Aussie talent like Tash Sultana truly creates a special Australian moment to mark the launch of one of our biggest titles for PS4.”

“This is the first time I’ve done a collab like this,” added Tash Sultana. “Usually it’s kinda just like writing sessions with other musos but this is for a game and it’s different as it’s not my usual style to venture into so I’m completely honoured to be asked to do something like this. I can’t wait to see it in the game world.”

The cover of “Through the Valley” serves as the first piece of new music from Tash Sultana since the release of “Pretty Lady” back in April, the latest taste of Tash’s forthcoming album, Terra Firma.
