This year is shaping up to be a big one for Melbourne’s own Tash Sultana, with the world-renowned artist releasing the new single “Pretty Lady” today.
Though it’s been over 18 months since the release of Tash Sultana’s debut album, Flow State, the critically-acclaimed musician hasn’t been too far from our ears. Though news of a “new career phase” came forth last year, new music also arrived, with “Can’t Buy Happiness” arriving alongside “Talk It Out” with Matt Corby, and “Daydreaming” with Milky Chance.
Now, following its premiere on triple j earlier this morning, Tash has now unleashed the brand new single “Pretty Lady”.
Co-written and made alongside Matt Corby and Dann Hume in Tash’s own studio, the track is a long time coming, and showcases the immaculate storytelling that Tash has become known for.
“I’ve been trying to figure out how to write this song for like 6 years,” Tash said of the song. “I used to loop it and just free style to it when I was busking years ago but I always got stuck on the same parts.
“I put the song in a box at the back of my mind and revisited it in November 2019. I had Dann Hume and Matt Corby spend some time in my studio and that’s when I decided to show them this song. It’s my first song I’ve collaborated with other players on.”
A masterful track that truly proves why Tash has been receiving so much praise over the last few years, “Pretty Lady” comes ahead of the follow-up to 2018’s Flow State, which Tash hopes to release later in the year.
Prior to the official release of the single, Tash also held a livestreamed acoustic session on YouTube, performing some unreleased acoustic tunes and revealing that this forthcoming second album is set to be titled Terra Firma.
With a number of worldwide tour dates set for later in the year, there’s currently no word as to when Tash Sultana is set to bring songs such as “Pretty Lady” to Aussie shores, though fans will undoubtedly be counting down the days.
