Sycco swings in with “Monkey Madness”, the second single from the indie producer and artist’s forthcoming debut album Zorb.
Built over pacey, broken beats, the dreamy number follows “Swarm”, which arrived in May.
Zorb promises to be a sonic land of hyperpop and space rock. According to Sycco, she was heavily inspired by the music of PinkPantheress and King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard during its creation.
“I wrote ‘Monkey Madness’ after having a few drinks with my friends Yari (my housemate) and Paddy (my drummer), and we decided to go to my studio that I had set up in my garage,” she explains. “We made it just for fun and were sampling our voices to sound like synths, which are still in there.”
“When Jeremy [Chrome Sparks] and I were working on the album, I showed him ‘Monkey Madness’ and he instantly said we had to work on it. It didn’t change too much from the original demo,” she says, enthusiastic over the prospect of playing the track live. “I want people to open the pit.”
Zorb (via Future Classic) is a coming-of-age moment artistically for the Brisbane musician (real name Sasha McLeod), a two-time song of the year winner at the Queensland Music Awards.
The album stems from that lived experience of crumbling share-houses in your early 20’s, life’s highs and lows, and forming lifelong friendships.
Due out August 23rd, Zorb’s 13 tracks are entirely self-written and co-produced by Sasha, with features from Flume, Mallrat, Styalz Fuego and more.
