Reformed Britpop Outfit Supergrass Plot First Australian Shows in 12 Years

Australian fans had no idea Supergrass would split just two years after they last visited in 2008. Now, they’re returning for a headline tour.

Supergrass are set to return to Australia for their first tour of the country since 2008.

Months after their surprise reformation was announced, reformed Britpop icons Supergrass have revealed they’re returning to Australia.

It was only back in September that Supergrass revealed that they were reforming to perform at England’s Pilton Party. The group originally announced their split back in 2010, putting an end to a 17-year career which spawned classic songs such as “Caught By the Fuzz”, “Alright”, and “Pumping on Your Stereo”.

Word of the group’s reunion seemed to come as a surprise to even the band themselves, with frontman Gaz Coombes explaining it all came back to them like no time had passed.

“We’ve had an intense week of rehearsing to get back into the swing and it’s sounding pretty amazing,” he revealed. “We just plugged in and started playing, and you just feel those moves that we all play together. It’s like our legs are tied with rope. It’s quite bizarre, but I guess that chemistry never goes away.”

Though the news of a reunion tour followed, Australian fans wondered when these new shows might see the group making their way down under. Thankfully the recent Groovin The Moo lineup answered this question, ahead of a run of headline dates being revealed today.

Serving as Supergrass’ first Australian shows since 2008, these headline dates will see them accompanied by the acclaimed Rocket Science as they perform highly-anticipated gigs in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Wollongong, and Brisbane; giving them barely any time off during their local visit.

Of course, this isn’t the only piece of good news seen by Supergrass fans in the recent weeks, with the band also releasing their career-spanning box set, The Strange Ones 1994-2008, last month.

In addition to collecting all of their albums on vinyl and CD, the deluxe edition also includes four discs of previously unreleased live material, two discs of remixes, B-sides, acoustic versions and other rarities, and one disc full of previously unreleased demos, out-takes and oddities.

Realising that extensive, career-spanning box sets are usually something only acquired by diehard fans, Supergrass also shared the announcement of a more economical and concise edition which serves as a compilation of their finest moments, with nine top 20 hits and five top 10s in the mix.

Tickets to the band’s upcoming shows are on sale from 11am local time, Thursday, February 20, while a Frontier Members pre-sale runs 24 hours from 11am AEDT, Monday, February 17. Check out all the details below.
