Spotify Wrapped has been welcomed as a staple of Australia’s pre-Christmas cruise, much like “Gravy Day”, Good Things Festival and ropey weather.
Australians pressed “play” all year on Spotify, for some genuine surprises. Other takeaways, not so much.
If you hadn’t already predicted that Taylor Swift would be crowned the most popular artist for users of Spotify in these parts for 2024, then give up on betting. It’s not for you.
After her record-smashing year, during which she locked-up the entire top 10 on the ARIA Singles Chart and, separately, owned the top 5 on the national albums tally, Swift led the way for the second straight year.
Newcomer Benson Boone had the most-streamed track in Australia with “Beautiful Things”, his ARIA Chart-leading breakthrough, while Australian Swifties consumed The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology more than any other LP, ahead of Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet and Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft respectively.
Now, for the less obvious results.

Following a late career surge, during which they led the ARIA Albums Chart, the triple j Hottest 100, and were anointed as cover stars of Rolling Stone AU/NZ, The Wiggles were Australia’s most-streamed local artists this year.
Coming in at No. 2 in that category is The Kid LAROI, the most newly-discovered Australian artist by global listeners outside Australia in 2024.
The 21-year-old singer and rapper was also the most streamed Australian artist in the APAC region, followed by Troye Sivan and Chase Atlantic.
Vance Joy’s classic “Riptide” continues to sweep the opposition. More than 10 years after its release, the evergreen hit (it’s 16-times ARIA platinum certified) came in at No. 1 on the list of Australia’s Top Local Songs, ahead of two dance music cuts: “Stumblin’ In” by CYRIL and “Saving Up” by ARIA Award-winner Dom Dolla.
Australian dance music is boogying to its own beat; it’s an export success story on the platform, notes Spotify, second only to pop among our top border-crossing genres.
“Dance music remains Australia’s musical juggernaut, solidifying its position as a leading export genre while making waves on the home front,” notes Spotify head of content (ANZ) Ben Watt.
“This year,” he continues, “standout tracks from Dom Dolla and CYRIL have climbed into the top local tracks, reflecting the incredible momentum of these two artists. Both have enjoyed a phenomenal year, captivating audiences locally and internationally as they continue their remarkable rise.”
The US, meanwhile, was the country that streamed Australian artists the most outside of Australia, followed by the UK, Germany, Canada, and Mexico respectively.
Spotify is the market-leading audio streaming subscription service with more than 640 million users, including 252 million subscribers in more than 180 markets. Roughly half the population of this Great Southern Land presses play on the Spotify app in a regular month.
