Spotify Australia & New Zealand has unveiled its 2024 Aotearoa Music Global Impact List, with evergreen pop star Kimbra leading the way.
Published today, the list recognises the Top 30 tracks from Aotearoa artists with the biggest global impact on Spotify over the entire calendar year of 2024 outside of New Zealand (tracks released between January 1st and December 31st, 2024). The list is generated from global streams of tracks by New Zealand artists but excludes streaming in New Zealand.
Taking out the top spot is a huge remix of Kimbra and Gotye’s classic “Somebody I Used to Know”, with the remix featuring Chris Lake, FISHER, and Sante Sansone.
Kiwi pop superstar Lorde makes it to No. 2 with “Girl, so confusing”, her famous collaboration with Charli XCX. Lorde also fills fifth spot with “Take Me to the River”. The rest of the Top 5 is rounded out by Balu Brigada’s “So Cold” at No. 3 and Vana’s “BEG!” at No. 4.
Other notable Aotearoa acts to make the Top 30 include reggae-rock titans L.A.B, rising producer 9lives, alt-pop star BENEE, and electronic musician BAYNK.

“Spotify are proud to be playing their part in helping Aotearoa on its journey to becoming a significant exporter of music, as well as helping prove that making it big in international markets is a legitimate path to career growth and success for local artists,” Spotify Australia & New Zealand Artist & Label Partnership Lead, Leah Harris, told Rolling Stone AU/NZ.
“It’s also great to see that alongside established Local legends as Kimbra, Lorde, L.A.B and more, 2024 was a breakout year for a stack of incredible artists like alt-pop duo Balu Brigada, and independent artist Vana who is blending metal, pop and electronic music with her huge track ‘BEG!’’’
“Of course, we can’t ignore the fact that the ‘Moana II’ soundtrack had a major impact on the list this year. It’s incredible to see the impact that traditional Maori-inspired music has had, with listeners across the globe discovering several incredible local artists through the movie and choosing to listen to them throughout the year of their own accord.”
Spotify’s Aotearoa list follows its Australian list which was published earlier this week.
Rising electronic music producer and DJ CYRIL landed three tracks in the Top 30, including the No. 1 with his remix of Disturbed’s “The Sound of Silence”.
CYRIL (real name: Cyril Riley) also appeared at No. 18 with his remix of “The Door” by Teddy Swims, and “Fall at Your Feet” with Dean Lewis at No. 24.
“I’m incredibly honoured to have three tracks featured on the Spotify Global Impact List, including a No. 1 spot, alongside so many talented artists,” commented CYRIL in a statement.
“It makes me proud that my music can show the world that Australians aren’t here to f*** spiders.”
