Splore, the annual music festival at Tāpapakānga Regional Park, will be taking a year off in 2025.

Organisers revealed the unfortunate news in a statement released on social media today.

“Looking back on a vibrant yet challenging festival season, we find ourselves at a crossroads. We recognise that the cost of living has surged, placing strain on our whānau making it too hard for many to attend Splore. This coupled with rising costs means it is very challenging staging a high content festival like Splore in this environment,” organisers said.

“We cherish the overwhelming support and aroha that made this year’s Splore unforgettable. Therefore we announce a fallow year for Splore in 2025. This is a time for manaakitanga, a moment to catch breath and recalibrate. By stepping back, we honour the delicate balance between celebration and responsibility. Without the hustle, there is space to create and grow. The fallow year is no retreat; it’s a conscious choice to nurture the roots that sustain us.”

The statement continued: “It is with a heart full of gratitude that we extend our deepest thanks to all Splorers, to every talented artist, dedicated crew member, volunteer, contractor, supplier, Tāpapakanga mana whenua guardians, diligent park rangers, community stakeholders and our sponsors. Your unwavering support and shared passion for Splore are the lifeblood of our festival.

“Remember when Splore was biennial? Those years between gatherings held a special kind of magic. Now, as we embrace this pause, let anticipation fill our hearts. In February 2026, we’ll reunite on the shores of Tāpapakanga Park. The sun will kiss the waves, and laughter will echo through the pōhutukawa trees.

Splore’s 2024 lineup included headliners such as Sampha, Greentea Peng, and The Pharcyde. Local acts Estère, Yoko-Zuna, MELODOWNZ, Shepherds Reign, Grecco Romank, and more rounded out the bill.
