Splendour in The Grass Postpones 20th Anniversary Event to November

“We can’t stage the event that you know and love within the current restrictions and international border closures,” organisers explained.

Following a disappointing year which saw their 20th anniversary celebrations postponed to July of 2021, Splendour in The Grass organisers have once again pushed back the event, which is now set to take place in November of this year.

First announcing its 2020 lineup back in February of that same year, Splendour organisers revealed they were going all out for their 20th anniversary edition, with the likes of Flume, The Strokes, and Tyler, The Creator all signing on for the iconic festival’s sold-out event.

Although the festival soon received (and subsequently responded to) criticism of a lack of gender diversity on the bill, any complaints soon fell by the wayside when the global COVID-19 pandemic saw the festival’s upcoming platinum celebration officially pushed back to October.

While the headline acts were announced to be the same, the full lineup was set to be released sometime in the near future, despite claims from industry heavyweights such as Michael Chugg, who labelled the festival’s plan to continue in October of 2020 as “ambitious”.

Now, after having pushed back the festival to July of 2021 – a full year on from when it was planned, and with Gorillaz replacing Flume at the top of the bill – the forthcoming edition of Splendour in The Grass has once again announced new dates, with it now set to take place in November of this year.

“We had so hoped to bring you Splendour’s 20th Anniversary edition this July but we can’t stage the event that you know and love within the current restrictions and international border closures,” co-founders Jessica Ducrou and Paul Piticco explained in a statement.

“Since March 2020, not a single festival in Australia has been able to run at full capacity and the industry is currently operating at a fraction of pre-COVID levels.”

With the festival now set to take place between the 19th and 21st of November, organisers also confirm that the previously-announced headliners – Gorillaz, The Strokes, and Tyler, the Creator – are all still set to perform at the festival. Likewise, organisers have confirmed that all previously-purchased tickets remain valid for the new dates, while pre-loved tickets are available via Moshtix now.
