While next week would have been set to feature the 20th anniversary of Splendour in The Grass, festival organisers have unveiled a limited edition shirt to benefit crew members affected by a year of cancellations.

Originally set to take place from July 24th until July 26th, this year’s edition of Splendour in The Grass was set to be a special one, serving as the 20th anniversary of the iconic festival. Unfortunately, the global COVID-19 pandemic saw these plans put on hold, and while “ambitious” plans of an October rescheduling were announced, the festival was eventually pushed back to mid-2021.

Although the likes of triple j have announced their archival Splendour in The Past broadcast for that weekend, it doesn’t quite come close to replacing what might have been. As such, festival organisers have now stepped in, launching a limited edition run of shirts to benefit those who have been affected by shutdowns in the industry.

The shirts, which double as concert memorabilia for the festival that never was, fittingly feature the phrase “Rather Be At Splendour”, with 100% of all proceeds from their sale going to Support Act, which provides crisis relief, mental health and wellbeing services to Australia’s music industry community.

“Support Act is delighted to partner with Splendour in the Grass to encourage their regular Splendour crew to access our Crisis Relief Grants,” Support Act CEO Clive Miller. “These are available to all crew and music workers who are struggling financially, and who meet our criteria.”

The shirts are on sale now from the Splendour in The Grass merchandise site.

Earlier this week, Splendour in The Grass organisers announced more details about their 2021 event, including the fact that while The Strokes and Tyler, The Creator would remain as festival headliners, a scheduling conflict has seen Flume replaced by Gorillaz.
