Weeks after the festival announced its 20th anniversary edition, Splendour in the Grass has now announced it too has been forced to postpone due to COIVD-19 fears.
The last week has been a dizzying mix of events either being cancelled or postponed faster than anyone could ever imagine. While the likes of Bluesfest seemed certain they would weather the storm, the banning of public events consisting of more than 500 people saw them yesterday become the latest addition to this growing pile of events that includes Coachella, Dark Mofo, and Download.
Of course, with this year’s Splendour in the Grass festival still four months away, many felt as though it would be safe from any of the hysteria surrounding the global pandemic. However, today it too has revealed it will alter its 20th birthday plans due to COVID-19.
“Splendour in the Grass 2020 is being rescheduled to Friday 23, Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October 2020 at North Byron Parklands,” the festival wrote on Facebook recently.
“In response to the Federal governments ban on public gatherings in excess of 500 pax and in these unpredictable times, in an effort to ensure a safe Splendour in the Grass experience, we will reschedule the 20th anniversary edition to the new dates in October.
Thankfully, the three headline acts are still confirmed to appear at the newly rescheduled event, though it’s unclear which other artists will be able to attend the October festival.
“Flume, The Strokes and Tyler, The Creator have all confirmed their attendance for these new dates alongside most others. As this is moving quickly and we work through the details there will be some programming changes but we are confident that rescheduling to October – a one-off Spring edition of Splendour – is the best way to ensure we present the Splendour experience you all know and love.
“See you in October for a one-off Spring edition of Splendour.”
