It feels like only yesterday that US musician TORRES (that is, the musical moniker of Mackenzie Scott) was released her latest album, but following a year on hold, and plenty of unbridled creativity, the acclaimed artist is back with the first single from her forthcoming fifth album.
Having released Silver Tongue at the end of January 2020, the year looked as though it would feature copious amounts of touring for TORRES. Unfortunately, the year had other plans, and though Silver Tongue was met with widespread acclaim and cited as one of the year’s best, an unintentional year on pause resulted in the creation of another full-length release.
Dubbed Thirstier, the record was saw TORRES teaming up with co-producers Rob Ellis and Peter Miles at Middle Farm Studios in Devon, UK at the end of 2020 to lay down tracks for what appears as her most exuberant and daring record to date.
With the album set to arrive at the end of July, TORRES has now shared the record’s lead single, with “Don’t Go Puttin Wishes in My Head” serving as a synth-heavy slice of indie rock. Defiant and fearless, the track sees TORRES showcasing her vulnerabilities without any apprehension, putting herself into the driver’s seat to deliver one of the most powerful singles of 2021.
The mesmerising single serves as the second track on Thirstier, a masterful record which showcases TORRES in exhilarating freefall, with love of all varieties – be it platonic, familial, or self – coming in from all angles and manifesting itself on what may be one of the year’s most exciting releases.
TORRES’ “Don’t Go Puttin Wishes in My Head” is out now, while Thirstier will be released on July 30th via Merge Records.
