To say that Srisha is something of a talented individual would be one of the biggest understatements anybody could possibly make, but if you needed even the slightest indication of just how much ability Srisha possesses, one only need look at her most recent single, “Without You”.
Hailing from Western Sydney/Dharug Country, Srisha is an artist who, per an accompanying press release, “exists between her Tamil ancestral roots and her multidimensional reality”. Having first introduced her talent to the world via her spoken word poetry work, Srisha explored contemporary socio-politics and found herself securing a spot as a finalist at the Australian Poetry Slam at the Sydney Opera House in 2017.
Since then, her performances have taken her to the Sydney Writers’ Festival, Carriageworks, Museum of Contemporary Art, and even resulted in an interview on ABC’s Lateline. However, apart from these many platforms and outlets, Srisha has also been setting her sights on the world of music, with a pair of singles arriving in recent years.
Now, new single “Without You” sees Srisha working with Melbourne/Naarm producer Ariel Blum to craft an immersive, trip-hop influenced cut which puts Srisha’s moving vocals front and centre, allowing the listener to lose themselves within the music and the message.
“Sometimes, we know that we are destined for certain things, destined to be with certain people, or destined to experience certain emotions,” Srisha says of the track. “‘Without You’ is about existing without those things, people or experiences. We end up accepting our realities for what they currently are, whilst pining for something we may possibly never attain.”
The follow-up to June’s “Lie to Me”, it’s currently unclear what’s next for Srisha or if we’ll be receiving plenty more music in the near future. But what we do know is that no matter what she does next, you can be sure it’ll be truly astounding.
Srisha’s “Without You” is out now.
