The latest single from their forthcoming second album, ‘Mortality’ is arguably one of the strongest and most accomplished tracks from Raccoon City to date.

Beloved Adelaide emo outfit Raccoon City have unveiled the latest taste of their forthcoming album, sharing the introspective yet powerful “Mortality” today.

Having first appeared on the scene a decade ago, Raccoon City shared their debut album Nightlife back in 2014, issuing a split single with Tired Minds the following year before embarking on something of a hiatus for a few years.

In January though, the group made their long-awaited return, sharing “Carnation” following their first live shows in a few years. Having promised the release of a new album in the coming months, the band soon followed this up with the release of “Nocturnus”, before reissuing their debut album, and then announcing the August release of their new album just last week.

Dubbed For Nobody, Nowhere, the record is slated for release on August 6th via Dog Knights Productions, with the group once again recording at House Of SAP with with Jarred Nettle, who also took on mixing and mastering duties. Meanwhile, For Nobody, Nowhere will also feature a guest appearance from Renee Munro of Adelaide outfit Hot Mess.

However, before the new album arrives in just a couple of months, Raccoon City have also offered up another taste of the record, with “Mortality” serving as its third single. While not showcasing the overtly-frenetic performance style that both the band and their associated genre are often known for, “Mortality” is instead a powerful, reflective track that stands tall as arguably one of the band’s finest compositions to date.

“The idea going into writing the song was to have a real throwback feel to our favourite post-hardcore/emo bands from growing up,” explained vocalist Levi Cooper. “Bands like Thursday, The Bled, Senses Fail, Saosin etc.”

“Lyrically this song is reflecting on my own personal friendships and what they meant to me,” Levi continued. “Knowing that sometimes someone can mean well but the relationship can become toxic and although maybe you don’t hate each other you eventually need to separate in order to flourish.”

“Mortality” is set to serve as the second track on Raccoon City’s new album, which officially arrives on August 6th. Alongside the arrival of the new single, the group are also opening up pre-orders for the album as well, with Australian and New Zealand fans able to order the album via the group’s Bandcamp page from 8:30pm ACST this evening, and international fans able to do so via the Dog Knights Productions website.

Raccoon City’s “Mortality” is out now, while For Nobody, Nowhere will be released on August 6th via Dog Knights Productions, with pre-orders available today.
