Just weeks after “Fool” became her second single of 2020, and second release overall, Margaret River singer/songwriter Paige Valentine has unveiled the striking video to the delicately beautiful track.
Releasing her debut track back in June by way of “Pure”, the WA artist quickly found herself a fervent audience thanks to her inimitable blend of music and lyrics to create something truly special. The acclaim soon flowed forth, with fans eager for a follow-up, with “Fool” – co-written with Dylan Ollivierre – arriving in late October.
Another exceptional release from an artist whose career is just beginning to take off, the track has now been paired with a powerful video clip which sees Valentine performing the song in a live setting as the camera pans around, showcasing a vulnerability and sincerity in the process.
Working with director and producer Luna Laure for the second time, the clip is a powerful visual born out of an incredibly simple concept.
“‘Fool’ is the second opus of my collaboration with Paige,” explains Laure. “For this one, we wanted to explore showcasing Paige’s performative skills where her bravado and charisma shine bright on screen.
“Keeping the concept simple, we move around Paige in a dance of cat and mouse to finally reveal the space and decor. A real behind-the-scenes look at where musicians and filmmakers finally stand bare.”
“‘Fool’ was written as a continuation from ‘Pure’,” explains Valentine. “I loved working with Laure to create the imagery for the first single and knew we could further develop something really sincere, powerful and vulnerable for ‘Fool’. Our main focus was to do something really stripped back that made the song the star.”
While “Fool” is out in the world now, Valentine is set to give the track a proper audience soon by way of a run of single launch shows and an appearance at the Nannup Music Festival in early 2021. While much of the world is still affected by pandemic-related lockdowns and cancelled events, WA’s progress has been astounding to the point that live music is on track to make an imminent return.
