A year-and-a-half on from the release of their first EP as Mid City, the Melbourne outfit are gearing up to share their latest collection of tracks quite soon, releasing new single “Liar Liar” this morning.

No strangers to the local music scene, Mid City’s musical story began close to a decade ago when they appeared on stages around the country as Them Bruins. Shedding their former moniker a few years back and rising from the ashes as Mid City, the group released a handful of tracks before their first EP, Die Waiting, was released early in 2019.

Now, after a pair of singles since then, including March’s “Forget It”, Mid City have returned with “Liar Liar”, and details of their new EP.

Premiering on triple j overnight, “Liar Liar” features the recording, production, and mixing talents of Oscar Dawson (Holy Holy, Alex Lahey, Ali Barter), and sees Mid City bursting out of the gate with a furious example of why they’ve kept fans engaged for so long.

“What started out as a beast of an instrumental, ‘Liar Liar’ took its final form when I forced myself out of town to a kitch-as-hell 1950’s caravan out past the Dandenongs,” explained frontman Joel Griffiths.

“It was here, as the valley filled with heavy smoke haze, that I put pen to paper and conjured the demons needed to match melody with meaning.”

The track is set to appear on the group’s forthcoming EP, Wishing for The Best, though specific details surround the EP are yet to arrive.
