As the wait for Flyying Colours’ upcoming second album draws to a close, the Melbourne outfit have today unveiled their latest single, “OK”.
Having announced the release of Fantasy Country way back in 2019, anticipation is undoubtedly building for the arrival of the group’s new record. While things have undoubtedly been a bit protracted due to the events of 2020, the band weren’t exactly lazy, issuing previous single “Big Mess” back in February of last year while excitement continued to build.
However, with the record now set to arrive on February 26th, the group have given fans the latest taste of the album by way of the hazy “OK”. Dreamy and melodic, with a fuzzy wall of sound that evokes musical comparisons to a brighter My Bloody Valentine, “OK” is Flyying Colours at their sleek best, with the track almost demanding you to lose yourself in the blissful composition.
Recorded over several sessions between 2017 and 2019, the track was a product of numerous studios, spaces, and bedrooms, with Woody Annison mixing the parts into what we hear today.
“I don’t discuss what songs are about very often,” explains Brodie J Brümmer. “The songs find the words themselves for me – I never think about it that much.
“That said, I believe ‘OK’ is about living your life dealing with something that you assume will go away once you reach a certain age or maturity, only to find that things don’t magically change when you ‘grow up’. Learning that you may not ever change even though the world around you might have.”
“This record is made up of songs written at a time in my life when I felt like everything was just moving so very fast, and even though I was happy enough I felt like I never had any control,” he adds. “Maybe this song has that sense of helpless optimism or confused confidence, I don’t know. But it’s all about what it means to you really.”
With Fantasy Country set to arrive later this month, Flyying Colours will hit the road on release day for a series of launch shows, kicking off in Adelaide, and travelling to Melbourne, Brisbane, and Sydney.
Flyying Colours’ “OK” is out now, while Fantasy Country will be released on February 26th via Poison City Records, with pre-orders available now.
