An exercise in bravery and intimate songwriting, “Love Me Like You Hate Me” is alt-pop artist CHYMES at her very best.

Just months after the release of her debut EP, Hell & Divine, Australian alt-pop sensation CHYMES has returned with her latest single, the luscious “Love Me Like You Hate Me”.

Released on Friday, the intricate, atmospheric single sees CHYMES putting her strong vocals front and centre as seemingly trip-hop-inspired instrumentation gives the track an inviting, intimate vibe.

“This one is truly made for headphones,” CHYMES explained to her followers on social media upon its release. “‘Love Me Like You Hate Me’ is a bit different from the songs I’ve released recently but I wanted to be brave and try something new… for me, this song is very raw and the story is quite intimate, so please treat her gently.”

Noting that there was a sense of nervousness at play in the lead-up to its release due to the intensely personal nature of the track, it appears that the single has since been warmly received, boasting thousands of plays on Spotify just days after its arrival.

While the darker, more intimate and personal nature of the track showcases a new side of CHYMES in terms of both her songwriting and performance style, it remains to be seen whether any upcoming work will follow on in the same vibe, or if it will see a return to the sound explored on earlier singles, or her Hell & Divine EP, which arrived back in June.

“Writing this EP felt very transformational for me,” CHYMES explained to Broadway World upon its release. “I was in the darkest place I think I’ve ever been in but was writing the best music I’ve ever written.”

Whatever is set to follow, it’s clear that CHYMES truly is serving up some of the best music she has ever written.

CHYMES’ “Love Me Like You Hate Me” is officially out now.
