Following a big year which has seen the release of instant classics such as the exceptional “Where Yuh From”, Dharug Country/Western Sydney Afro Swing vocalist Big Skeez has returned with one of his biggest songs to date, with “Up” arriving earlier this week.
Working with frequent collaborator Swick (Tkay Maidza, Capo Lee, Big Zuu, Kamakaze, Merky Ace) on production, and written with Tom Elliot (one half of Korky Buchek) in Naarm/Melbourne, “Up” is a genre-shifting track which, paired with its uplifting lyrical focus, sees Big Skeez at his prime.
“The song is about staying up when you fall from any situation, you get back up and keep it moving,” explains Big Skeez. “It’s also about having fun and good vibes with close family and friends.”
In addition to its powerful delivery and slick production, “Up” comes paired with a music video directed by long-time collaborator Murli (MAY-A, Ninajirachi and Kota Banks, Slim Set), and shot on Dharug Land.
“The track is so lovely and the lyrics are a lot about Skeez and the people he surrounds himself with,” explains Murli. “I wanted to make the video as true and as genuine to Skeez and his friends, showcasing a real, authentic and friendly side of him.”
“I wanted the video to be about my close family and friends, coming together as one and just keep grinding to the top,” added Big Skeez. “Not worry about the past situations and stay Up!
“So it was so great to see what Murli and the team did to make the whole video come to life.”
With Big Skeez currently “kicking goals like Pogba” at every chance he gets, it’s clear that tracks like “Up” are just the beginning for an artist of his calibre. Though it remains to be seen just what’s next, you can be sure his is a career that will constantly be on the… up.
Big Skeez’ “Up” is out now via NLV Records.
