Song You Need to Know: Amy Shark, ‘Love Songs Ain’t for Us’

Amy Shark recruits country icon Keith Urban for the new track, co-written with global superstar Ed Sheeran.

Amy Shark is continuing her run of huge singles in the lead-up to her highly-anticipated second album, sharing the latest taster by way of “Love Songs Ain’t for Us”, featuring Keith Urban.

Released today, the new track serves as the fourth single from upcoming record CRY FOREVER, following on from previously-released songs “Everybody Rise”, “All the Lies About Me”, and the Travis Barker-featuring “C’MON”. With “Love Songs Ain’t for Us”, Shark once again continues to rub shoulders with big names, this time recruiting Keith Urban for the song, which was in turn co-written by Ed Sheeran,

“Ed asked me if I wrote songs about my man, I told him I do, but love songs aren’t really for us,” Shark recalls. “He then smiled and said, ‘OK, that’s what we’ll do then’. This song is as loved up as you’ll get from me and I love it.”

The result is a smooth pop track which, while not full of the same outwardly anthemic qualities as previous tracks, revels in the quiet intensity, utilising the sort of country influences only someone like Keith Urban can add to the mix.

Speaking to Rolling Stone about the track last year, Shark explained that working with another artist is something which needs to feel “right” and “natural”, and in the case of Keith Urban, was a perfect fit.

“This particular song that he’s on, it felt like it needed something, and when someone threw Keith Urban’s name in, I was like, ‘Oh my god, that’s genius, and it’s perfect!’,” she explained.

“Because he’s all class, and the song is quite a classy, timeless song, and it just made sense. Once we sent it to him, he was just so stoked and more than happy to be involved, and just took the song to another level.”
