It’s been a few months since listeners heard from Alice Skye, but now the acclaimed Wergaia/Wemba Wemba woman Alice Skye has returned with her latest single, the stunning “Grand Ideas”.
Officially released on Wednesday, the track is Alice’s first new track of 2020, and sees Jen Cloher on production duties, while Prime Minister of the National Indigenous Youth Parliament, Aretha Brown, provides artwork for the single.
A powerful indie-rock number backed with Alice’s gorgeous vocals, the tune serves as one of the finest additions to the acclaimed musician’s catalogue to date. Lyrically, the track dreams of a great escape from oneself and the “grand ideas” we build to break from the thoughts within.
The single also comes paired with a Triana Hernandez-directed music video, and sees Alice facing the “living room inside my head” with some dreamlike, at times surreal, visuals.
Released at the start of Reconciliation Week, “Grand Ideas” coincides with Alice’s upcoming appearance as part of a concert this Friday evening organised by Reconciliation Australia.
Hosted by Christine Anu, the event will broadcast on Anu’s National Evenings show on ABC Radio, and will feature appearances from Busby Marou and Jimblah, in addition to Alice Skye herself.
While “Grand Ideas” is out now via Bad Apples on YouTube and other streaming services, the track is set to be officially launched online on June 6th, with more details still to come.
