As Sydney duo Abroad move into the next chapter of their career, the eclectic pair have unveiled their first taste of music this year by way of the effervescent “Coffee”.
Comprising Jack Dawson and Will Cruger, the musical pair have been sharing compositions for a number of years now, with last year’s Sydney EP mesmerising audiences, and seeing single “Waves” reach over a 1.1 million streams on Spotify alone.
Now, they’ve shared their first piece of new music since the aforementioned EP, with “Coffee” mixing the genres of indie and electronica as they show off their next chapter.
Self-produced and mixed by Cruger, the track goes down smooth likes its namesake, with any notion of a bitter aftertaste being replaced by the well-sweetened brew of slick vocals and dazzling, well-caffeinated instrumentation.
Set to appear on their forthcoming album, “Coffee” sees the pair sparking excitement for what is still to come for their exciting year.
“‘Coffee’ is like having a fresh start and that exciting time when everything is new,” says Dawson. “Getting that burst of energy to get up and rip into what is in front of you.”
“‘Coffee’ is really an analogy for the person that gets you out of bed in the morning,” adds Cruger. “The person that gives you energy just being in your life. I’ve worked in the specialty coffee industry longer than Abroad has been around. It’s always fuelled my creativity.”
With “Coffee” officially out today, Abroad are set to launch their latest track with a run of shows in New South Wales later this month and early next. After some time away from the tools, the pair are excited to get back amongst it and do what they do best.
“This is why we create music,” says Cruger. “Jack and I both sing and play instruments, so we really try to do as much as we can live. The set we’ve been working on since the start of 2020 has continually evolved, we’re playing a range of instruments and making the entire performance engaging to our audience.”
“We want to create a show that blows people away,” adds Dawson. “As well as sounding crisp, we want the full show of lights and atmospheric energy to keep the audience present and engaged.”
With a powerful live return on the way, and new music on the boil, 2022 is undoubtedly set to be the year of Abroad. Just you watch.
