Following a rough year for the music industry as a whole, Something for Kate are set to make their grand return to the live stage, touring not only in support of last year’s The Modern Medieval, but also to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their universally-beloved commercial breakthrough, Echolalia.
Set to hit the road this September, the upcoming dates will serve as the band’s first headline tour in four years, with Something for Kate set to give fans everything they’ve been waiting for. Performing one night only in each city, the shows will see the band in ‘Double or Nothing’ mode, performing two special sets at each gig, with one focusing Echolalia performed in full, and the other other featuring a mix of new and old favourites.
“We’ve been unable to tour The Modern Medieval since its release last year and along with Echolalia turning 20 this year, we wanted to find a way to celebrate both albums so we decided to play two sets a night,” the band explains in a statement. “We’ll be our own support band!
“One set will feature Echolalia in full and the other set will be made up of songs from the The Modern Medieval plus a mix of other favourites. This will be a rare and unique Something for Kate tour. We can’t wait for these very special shows.”
Originally released in June of 2001, Echolalia served as Something for Kate’s third full-length album, and also as their commercial breakthrough. Not only peaking at number two on the Australian charts, it gave the band six ARIA Award nominations, was voted the best album of the year by triple j listeners, and spawned beloved singles such as “Three Dimensions”, “Say Something”, and “Monsters”.
To fully give Echolalia the anniversary treatment it deserves, the band have also announced a limited edition vinyl reissue of the record, featuring new artwork, presented on clear vinyl, adorned with images from the era, and boasting lyrics written in Paul Dempsey’s unmistakable handwriting. Pre-orders for the forthcoming reissue will commence on August 6th, with full details set to arrive in the coming weeks.
