US musical duo SOFI TUKKER are set to deliver a special treat for their Australian fans this weekend, announcing plans for an “Australian focused” DJ set.
Having used the global lockdown period as an opportunity to let the creative juices flow from their home in Miami, SOFI TUKKER kicked off a daily DJ set back in March as a means to keep their fans entertained.
Utilising live samples, guitar, and vocals into their sets, it’s provided the pair with a chance to keep themselves nice and sharp musically, while offering a concert-length performance for their fans.
Taking place at 1pm (local time) each day, this daily performances have been somewhat inaccessible for their Australian fans who would have to set their alarms for the very early morning in order to check them out.
However, their Aussie fanbase has proven to be the group’s most passionate. In addition to getting around the release of their track “When the Rona’s Over” for triple j’s ‘Quarantune’ series, their new Gorgon City-featuring single “House Arrest” resonated with fans to much to the point that it was the station’s most-played track recently.
“We started this song on ‘House Tuesday’: a gathering of the homies every Tuesday to have fun and improvise house music,” the pair said of the song which originated last year, but found relevance in this time of lockdown. “We originally didn’t intend to make a song but we loved what we were doing so much that we recorded it.
“Just because we are under ‘house arrest’ doesn’t mean we can’t go to the club in our minds.”
Now, with 113 days of live sets under their belts, SOFI TUKKER will be giving back to their Aussie fans, dedicating their entire performance this Saturday to nothing but Australian-based acts.
“We love Australia so much and can’t wait to come back,” the pair said in a statement. “Since we’re stuck staying away from you for now, we want to celebrate ‘House Arrest’ being #1 on triple j by playing an exclusively Australian live DJ set this Friday!! Can’t wait for thisss.”
The performance is set to take place at 12pm AEST on Saturday, July 4th, and will be broadcast via their Facebook, Instagram, and Twitch channels. Directly after the performance, the duo will upload the video to their Facebook account.
