The former drummer of Slipknot has confirmed an upcoming solo album for 2025.
Jay Weinberg posted the news on social media just before New Year’s Day. Despite never really connecting with the concept of New Year’s resolutions, he “always believed in the power of intention, and following through on setting manageable goals”.
As the son of Bruce Springsteen drummer Max Weinberg, the Slipknot stickman began his music journey subbing in for his old man’s role in The E Street Band.
After a decade as a key member of the Iowa group, Slipknot made the “creative decision” to split from Weinberg, who expressed that he felt “heartbroken and blindsided”. He now drums for metal and rock bank Suicidal Tendencies and the Infectious Grooves supergroup.
Almost two years after the Slipknot split, Weinberg now shares new goals with his fans, “One of my ambitions for 2025 is to record more music in the studio — starting with my own material I’ve been writing for quite a while. Some of which I’ve been working away at since my early 20’s,” he wrote in the Instagram post.
He posted an old photo of himself from 2017, during a “period of time when I had actually put together a group to play this music in a band setting, during a prolonged downtime from touring”. He continued, “It was awesome, and a great creative challenge.”
About his upcoming solo project, he said, “I haven’t touched these songs since then, until recently feeling inspiration to pick the guitar back up and kick this stuff around again. It’s been a fulfilling experience, and I’ll tell you — I’m starting to like where these songs are headed. It feels good to finally set the intention of releasing some of this new music in the coming year.”
He further expressed his excitement to support Metallica with his Suicidal Tendencies band, “I’m so looking forward to all the onstage fun that’s ahead of us (suicidal tendencies supporting metallica in stadiums, are you *kidding* me? 🔥) — and I’m equally pumped to spend considerable time in the studio, especially working on this collection of songs.”
“Stoked for you to hear them. When they’re ready, you’ll know,” the American musician signed off.
