Selena Gomez has confirmed her rumoured collaboration wth K-pop sensations Blackpink for the group’s next single.

Taking to Twitter today, Selena Gomez revealed:

“So SO excited to announce @BlackPinkOfficial and I have a new song coming out August 28th.”

The rumour mill over the collaboration had been churning ever since Blackpink’s label YG Entertainment revealed a yet-to-be-titled new single from the South Korean group would be arriving on August 28. The single follows record-breaking single, “How You Like That”, which earned 86.3 million YouTube views on its arrival on June 26.

The initial streaming success of “How You Like That” set records for the most viewed YouTube video in 24 hours, the most viewed music video on YouTube in 24 hours, and the most viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours by a K-pop group.

Blackpink recently collaborated with Lady Gaga for “Sour Candy,” their collaboration from Gaga’s latest album Chromatica. At the time of the lyric video’s release back in May, Lady Gaga’s online store also released exclusive “Sour Candy”-themed merch in conjunction with the video.

Blackpink has an extremely strong Australasian connection with its member Rosè (Roseanne Park) being from Melbourne and Jennie Kim having grown up in New Zealand.

Rosè was born in New Zealand and moved to Australia with her family when she was seven years old. When she auditioned for YG Entertainment in Australia at 16 years old, the Korean entertainment company flew her to Seoul as a “trainee” K-pop artist before creating the Blackpink group.

Despite breaking global records, Blackpink are yet to release a debut album. That’s set for release on October 2 via YG Entertainment/Interscope Records.
