With the 2020 ARIA Awards a week away, the event is shaping up to be a star-studded affair and the latest confirmation to the performer list is British singer-songwriter Sam Smith.
The addition of Smith to the list of performers confirmed for the event, which is scheduled to take place next week at the Star Event Centre in Sydney, bolsters an already stacked guest list.
“Australia has always held such a special place in my heart, and I am so honoured to be a part of this year’s ARIA Awards! I’ll be crossing live from London with a very special performance for you all. I can’t wait to see you soon!” says the singer in a press release.
Due to social distancing measures, the four-time Grammy Award winner will be performing live at London’s famous Abbey Road Studios and their performance will be broadcast at the event.
“It is a great honour to be able to welcome one of the world’s biggest stars Sam Smith to this year’s ARIA Awards,” says ARIA Chief Executive Dan Rosen in a press release. “While the COVID pandemic means that our international guests cannot be physically with us, we are excited to take the ARIAs to the world’s stages.
“And what a thrill to have an ARIA performance from the world’s most famous studio Abbey Road. We cannot wait to bring Sam from the hallowed Abbey Road to the 2020 ARIA Awards.”
Delta Goodrem was recently confirmed to host the 2020 ARIA Awards, which is set to to be an exciting event with Lime Cordiale and Tame Impala each leading the field with eight nominations. Also confirmed for this year’s event is the induction of Archie Roach into the Hall of Fame.
