It’s a milestone week for Rosé, as the K-pop star’s hit “APT.” (via Warner) nabs a 10th week at #1 on the ARIA Chart.
A collaboration with Bruno Mars, “APT.” is the Australia-raised artist’s first solo chart-topper, although as part of Blackpink she scored the title with “Pink Venom” in 2022.
Mars, meanwhile, has led the national chart with four singles, including “Uptown Funk” with Mark Ronson, which logged six weeks at the top of the leaderboard in 2014-15.
On the ARIA Chart published Friday, January 17th, “APT.” leads an unchanged top 5 ahead of Gracie Abrams’ “That’s So True” (Interscope/Universal), Lola Young’s “Messy” (Island/Universal), Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ “Die With a Smile” (Warner/Universal) and Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” (Interscope/Universal), respectively.
Just four homegrown tracks impact the ARIA Top 50, led by Vance Joy’s 2013 hit “Riptide” (Mushroom), down 21-22. “Riptide” is 16-times platinum certified, and has spent 128 total weeks on the tally.
Further down the list, Sonny Fodera, D.O.D & Jazzy’s “Somedays” lifts 34-31 (ADA/Warner), Royel Otis’ viral cover of the Cranberries’ “Linger” (SiriusXM Session) holds at No. 37, and Cyril’s housey interpretation of Chris Normal and Suzi Quatro’s “Stumblin’ In” (Spinnin’ Records/Warner) dips 41-45.
Sabrina Carpenter can give herself a pat on the back. The U.S. pop singer and actor’s breakthrough album Short N’ Sweet (Island/Universal) clocks-up its own milestone, with 10 non-consecutive weeks at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. According to ARIA, 11 of its 12 tracks have reached the top 40, including leaders with “Espresso”, “Please Please Please” and “Taste”. The only track to miss out is album closer, “Don’t Smile”.
Superstar Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny finally makes his mark on the ARIA Top 40, as his new studio album Debi Tirar Más Fotos (Orchard) blasts 99-16. Debi Tirar Más Fotos is a history-maker in the United States, where all 17 songs from the album chart impact the Billboard Hot 100. One of those cuts, “DTMF”, debuts at #1 on the TikTok Billboard Top 50. Bad Bunny’s third studio album, El Último Tour Del Mundo from 2020, was the first all-Spanish language album to top the Billboard 200. Spotify declared Bunny the most streamed artist worldwide in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
Just one Australian-made LP cracks the ARIA top 50, the Cold Chisel hits retrospective 50 Years – The Best Of (Cold Chisel/Universal). It’s down 39-47. Chisel’s 50-year anniversary roundup was the top ranked homegrown record in Australia for 2024, according to recently-published data from ARIA.
