Rolling Stone House at SXSW Sydney is over for another year.
We brought a massive house party to the Lord Gladstone Hotel last night (October 16th), featuring some of the most exciting rising stars in Australian and New Zealand music.
The Lord Gladstone Hotel was the place to be from 4pm yesterday, with the beloved Chippendale venue packed out with music fans, industry figures, and SXSW attendees.
New Zealand-born, Melbourne-based D.C. Maxwell, who regularly featured in Rolling Stone AU/NZ thanks to his excellent debut album, Lone Rider (2023), showed why he’s one of the most charismatic live performers on these shores.
Half British/half Australian singer-songwriter Charlie Pittman was also there, in fine form following his national tour.
Jamaica Moana put on a showcase of her sleek and confident rap, bringing the vibes to our house party.
Body Type, one of the best post-punk bands to emerge out of Australia this decade, reminded us why their 2022 debut album, Everything Is Dangerous But Nothing’s Surprising, rightly earned them a nomination for the prestigious Australian Music Prize.

And our house party ended in style with a thrilling headline set by DZ Deathrays, who have become a live circuit mainstay in their home country.
Bringing moshpit-ready energy and raucous rhythms to the Lord Gladstone, the Brisbane dance-punk trio’s set featured fan favourite anthems alongside new cuts from their forthcoming album, Easing Out of Control.
Our house party also featured performances from Ama, DJ Soluna, Ullah, and Akala Newman.
“Last night’s Rolling Stone House party was one to remember,” says Editor-in-Chief Neil Griffiths. “From the time doors opened at the Lord Gladstone from 4pm through to DZ Deathrays’ headline performance later in the night, the room was jammed with music lovers and fans.
“A big thank you to all of the bands who took to the stage and a massive congratulations to all involved. How good’s a house party?!”
The latest Rolling Stone House followed last year’s second edition, which featured three days of up-and-coming acts showcasing their music.
Hockey Dad, The Grogans, The Buoys, Bakers Eddy, Ayesha Madon, Phoebe Rings, and 9lives were just some of the incredible acts who featured in 2024.
