After more than 30 years in the game UK pop icon Robbie Williams is filming his first biopic. Now, with filming taking place in Australia, the beloved music legend has announced a special one-off show in Melbourne this April.

His first visit to the country in over four years, this one-off event will be a celebration of Williams’ musical career, and coincides with the filming of his forthcoming biopic, Better Man.

As such, the special evening will take place on Saturday, April 30th at Rod Laver Arena, and is set to feature a special 60-minute ‘greatest hits’-style live show from Williams. Additionally, the night will also include a guest appearance from a spokesperson from the set of Better Man, in addition to an exclusive on-stage interview between Williams and Richard Wilkins as the pair discuss the forthcoming film, including stories of Williams’ life, and how this will be translated into the film.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be staging this very special, exclusive, never-to-be-repeated night in Melbourne in April,” Williams explained. “I genuinely love being in Australia, so it’s only fitting that I’m shooting the Better Man movie there.

“I’m delighted to be hosting this unique evening with my Victorian fans, where I’ll be performing a set as well as sharing some exclusive insights into the movie.”

Meanwhile, patrons are also advised that select footage from the performance is set to be included in the final cut of the Better Man film.

Having first launched his career as a member of Take That back in 1990, Williams went solo in 1995, unveiling his debut album, Life Thru a Lens in 1997. Since then, 11 of his 12 studio albums have topped the charts in his native UK (with the remainder scoring a silver medal), while almost almost all of his records have been certified Gold or Platinum in Australia.

Famously, his 2006 tour of the country was one of his biggest to date, with over 100,000 tickets for his nine-date stadium tour selling out within half an hour. Last in the country in support of his 2016 album, The Heavy Entertainment Show, Williams has since continued his status as one of the world’s most successful pop artists, tying with Elvis Presley for the record of most #1 albums in the UK upon the release of the record.

The filming of the Better Man documentary was announced in December of 2021, with Williams revealing that it would be filmed at Docklands Studios in Melbourne.

Better Man is shaping up to become a major theatrical event and we couldn’t be more excited that it will shoot in Melbourne, also the hometown of director Michael Gracey,” Roadshow Films CEO Joel Pearlman said in a statement.

“To tell Robbie William’s beautiful, distinct story, back home, in my own city, is a dream come true. There is a creative energy that burns across the Melbourne film industry, and I know this movie will thrive here.”
