New Zealand alt-pop duo Balu Brigada have released “What Do We Ever Really Know?”, the fourth single from their highly anticipated debut album.
The romantically dreamy track sees brothers Henry and Pierre Beasley choosing love in the face of life’s uncertainty, highlighted during the chorus: “If the world stopped spinning ’round again / Then I don’t care / If the globe is frozen by October / Be my baby till it’s over.”
Balu Brigada described the song as “an existential crisis, peppered with a euphoric appreciation of the present.”
They added: “Feeling the weight of existence and all the intensities that come with ambition, but finding the sweet spot that lets you release all the tension and live in the reality that no one knows anything.”
“We’re all just idiots on a spinning rock, doing our bestest.”
Balu Brigada also released an accompanying music video, directed by Sean, featuring a retro film look paired with ’80s style animations.
The track follows the release of “The Question”, “Backseat”, and last year’s breakout hit “So Cold”—all appearing on their debut album Portal, due out August 29.

The brothers performed “So Cold“ during their Jimmy Kimmel Live! debut in March. The single has since amassed more than 48 million streams globally, marking a major milestone in their musical journey.
Balu Brigada have described their career so far as “a series of step-by-step moments that have led us closer to our dream of writing and playing music across the world.”
That dream took a leap forward in 2022 when they signed with Atlantic Music Group and relocated to the US, resulting in their first ever US headline tour selling out earlier this year.
The duo recently supported Twenty One Pilots on a global tour and will headline shows across Mexico and the US this October and November.
Balu Brigada’s “What Do We Ever Really Know?” is out now via Atlantic Records, ARRO Records, and Warner Australia.
