Ringlets have released “I Was on That Roof Once”, the third single from their upcoming album.
The track gives a glimpse of the album’s wide-ranging sound, blending bright guitars, crisp drums, and lush harmonies from Arabella Poulsen, László Reynolds, and Leith Towers. The album’s title also sneaks into the song’s mysterious opening line.
Lead vocalist Leith Towers describes the track as “circling the drain of sincerity, belief, and our better natures gone a bit mouldy.” The music video features “door dancing,” a half-invented nod to old Irish tradition, and plays with ideas of ritual and balance.
The Auckland post-punk band’s new record, The Lord Is My German Shepherd (Time for Walkies), drops June 27. Catch our album review in the June–August print issue.
Produced by the band and Michael Logie (The Mint Chicks) at The Lab in Auckland and mixed by Isaac Keating at Abbey Road, the album follows their 2023 self-titled debut. Previous singles include the punchy “Street Massage”, the dreamy “Heavenly Wheel”, and the playful “New Life”.
Following the release of their promising debut in 2023, Ringlets featured in Rolling Stone AU/NZ‘s Up-And-Coming Aotearoa Artists series, where Reynolds described the band’s sound as being “made up of eight equal parts: fun, friendly, sad, scary, dumb, sexy, mad, and hairy.”

When asked about what the band hoped to achieve in the future, Reynolds responded, “Make another (better) album.” Based on the strength of “Heavenly Wheel”, it could be a case of mission accomplished.
Ringlets’ “I Was on That Roof Once” is out now. The Lord Is My German Shepherd (Time for Walkies) is out June 27th via Flying Nun Records and Leather Jacket Records (pre-save/pre-order here).
