While the world suffers through the disappointment of a year on hold thanks to COVID-19, music-lovers are looking ahead to the upcoming monthly event of Record Store Day, with its first round of releases being announced yesterday.

The official list of Record Store Day releases was first unveiled back in March – weeks before the world went into lockdown, and close to two months before the annual event was set to take place. While titles from the likes of New Order, The Cure, My Chemical Romance, Gorillaz, and Eminem were set to be rather popular items, their release was sadly put on hold.

As the months have gone on, organisers have finally settled on a novel way to hold the event, with a three-month concept called “RSD Drops”. Taking place on the final Saturdays of August and September (and second-to-last Saturday in October), the three-date event sees Record Store Day adapting to the current climate, with stores operating however they most feel comfortable, with online purchases looking most possible.

Now, Record Store Day have officially unveiled the list of records that will be available on the first of these RSD Drop days, with a number of Aussie artists featuring prominently.

Most of the local artists will be appearing by way of triple j’s upcoming Like a Version series, which sees the station releasing their works on vinyl for the first time since 1990. The likes of Alex Lahey, Angus & Julia Stone, Flume, Ocean Alley, and Vance Joy will all feature on this series of 7″ singles, while FIDLAR and Denzel Curry will hold down the international representation on the weekly covers segment.

Meanwhile, The Teskey Brothers will unleash their Live at The Forum record on coloured vinyl, Cub Sport’s 333 EP will see a release limited to its titular amount, and The Bamboos will share their Twenty Years 2000 – 2020 double 7″ package.
