Psychedelic Porn Crumpets Complete ‘Warped Visual Trilogy’ With ‘Pukebox’ Video

“It’s crazy to think about the evolution of these videos, where it started and how it ended,” explained filmmaker Oliver Jones.

With just days to go until the release of their fourth album, SHYGA! The Sunlight Mound, Perth’s Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have shared the music video for their latest single, wrapping up a “warped visual trilogy” by way of the clip for “Pukebox”.

Releasing the single in the middle of January, the track had its worldwide premiere on BBC Radio 1 with Annie Mac, with frontman Jack McEwan explaining that “Pukebox” had served as something of a reference point for the upcoming record’s sonic ‘flavour’, with the song previously feeling not quite right for any of the band’s other albums.

“I wrote the first part in first person, talking about my time at home drinking moonshine and wondering who else was doing the same,” McEwan explained. “Then I compared that in the second verse with a secondary version of myself who I wrote about as a character, a little bit lost, waking up with a hangover in random cities trying to find a meaning while it sailed right past me. Both unaware of each other’s existence while slowly going mad through repetitive consumption.”

Now, “Pukebox” has received its visual accompaniment, with the group once again enlisting the talents of filmmaker Oliver Jones to create a mesmerising claymation odyssey.

Having previously worked with Jones on the clips to “Mr. Prism” and “Tally-Ho!”, it was not originally intended for these videos to become part of an ongoing series, but with the narrative proving too enticing to ignore, the story ended up lasting a full three videos, with “Pukebox” now wrapping things up.

“It’s all heating up in Sweetsville!” McEwan said in a statement. “It’s been so much fun working with Ollie; I’m genuinely sad the saga is coming to its close. It’s been a great claymation journey, one we’re all extremely proud of, and we’ve saved the best for last.”

“As always, it’s great working with the Porn Crumpets and was super fun to dive back into the world of T-Bone and Alice for one last adventure to conclude their story,” explained Jones. “It’s crazy to think about the evolution of these videos, where it started and how it ended.

“I’m still amazed at what Brandon and I managed to pull off; most stop motion videos have an entire team working on them. In these videos, there were just the two of us and we made three of them back to back. It’s pretty insane, when you think about it!”

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets’ SHYGA! The Sunlight Mound will be released on Friday, February 5th, 2021, with pre-orders available now.
