Melbourne punk outfit Private Function have added another stellar entry into their 2020 diary, sharing the video for their recent single “Sleep Paralysis”, from August’s acclaimed Whose Line Is It Anyway? album.

The third track from their top ten-charting second album to receive the video treatment, the clip to “Sleep Paralysis” features drummer Aidan McDonald on directorial duties, as the majority of the band find themselves facing a dark figure during their attempts to sleep. As anxiety-inducing as the prospect of sleep paralysis itself, the video mixes humour with visceral fear as the track progresses towards its natural conclusion.

The arrival of the clip coincides with news of the band’s signing to Spanish label FOLC Records, which serves as a home to acts such Mudhoney, King Salami and the Cumberland Three, and The Meanies.

Meanwhile, Private Function have also recently announced their return to the live stage, with two shows set to take place as part of the Melbourne Music Week celebrations on December 18th and 19th.

Dubbed ‘Private Function Saves Christmas!’, the two shows sold out almost immediately, causing the group to announce a rare livestream of the first performance. Professionally-filmed and hosted by Bandcamp, the group confidently claim it will be the “best live stream performance in the history of all live streams”.

“Ask those who witnessed the chaos of our previous streams can attest; you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll be confused as to what you’re doing and why you’re doing it,” they explain. “But enough chit chat. This will be the greatest live stream performance of all time and is guaranteed to bring the entire concept of live performances, streamed or otherwise, into complete disrepute.

“Now, we know what you’re thinking. ‘Live stream? Isn’t that just what bands you wouldn’t go see anyway playing acoustic guitars in their bedroom?’ Well, with this show you’ve got the PF Guarantee of no acoustic guitars and entertainment above and beyond anything else you’ll see online.”

Tickets to the group’s livestream performance are on sale now via their Bandcamp page.
