Following a year of cancelled shows and rare bouts of excitement, Melbourne punk outfit Private Function have given music-lovers a gift to cherish, announcing the details of their annual Christmas gig.
Taking place one day after the fifth anniversary of their debut show, Private Function’s 2021 Christmas extravaganza looks to provide relief from the year that has been by way of the horror-themed ‘Miracle on 69th Street’ celebration, which takes over Melbourne’s Forum Theatre on Saturday, December 18th.
Featuring appearances from “dishonourable guests” Press Club and Blonde Revolver, the event will also be punctuated with DJ sets courtesy of Georgia Maq and Cable Ties. Meanwhile, the floor of the Forum will also play host to live combat from Pro Wrestling Australia between sets, proving that the local heroes are ensuring nothing will be left in the tank following such a disappointing year.
In true fashion, the show is expected to be Private Function at their finest, and given the fact that their appearance at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl earlier this year culminated in the execution of the Gobbledok, it’s far to say anything and everything can and will happen. As an accompanying press release explains, it’s “a truly unmissable decade-late-entry public school Rock Eisteddfod production”.
Private Function have undoubtedly been one of the bands affected most by this year’s COVID-related cancellations, with only ten of their planned 28 shows taking place this year. While it remains to be seen what sort of musical environment this upcoming show is set to occur against, fans can be sure that Private Function will be doing their best to ensure 2021 is both celebrated and farewelled in the manner that only they can provide.
