Sydney duo Polish Club have announced their fourth album, Heavy Weight Heart.
The album will be released on September 13th, but for now fans can enjoy new single, “How Dare You Fall in Love in This City”, below.
The single was very much a one-take, with co-writer Robby De Sa praising the track’s authenticity (hence the swift completion). “HDYFILITS” adds to their ongoing album rollout which started in April with the first release entitled “Manila”.
Released as a companion track to Manila, Polish Club say “HDYFILITS” is about their hometown, with “both songs exploring the notion of not being sure whether or not you’re happy in said place (Manila or Sydney).”
“This was the track from the album that stressed us out most in the studio,” shares David Novak, one half of the duo. “We spent more time than perhaps we ever have chasing synth sounds and guitar tones.”
The album won’t arrive until midway through September, but it’s already completed, having been recorded at Marrickville’s Golden Retriever Studios last September.
Heavy Weight Heart will be ten tracks long, and will explore Novak’s time battling congenital heart disease, as well as his preparation for his successful surgery last January. If you’re a fan of Polish Club, you’ll know their music is mostly energetic, but they promise that it’s still on brand.
“We thought this was going to be our last big label record, so we wrote a bunch of big stadium rock songs intended for a full band vibe”, says Novak. “The album strikes a perfect balance between hard and soft, sincerity and boldness.”
Over the last decade, Polish Club have released albums like Alright Already and Now We’re Cookin’, but Heavy Weight Heart will be the band’s first independent release, which both Novak and John-Henry Pajak are stoked about.
Additionally, they’re embarking on an Australian album in October, with tickets on sale now (see full details below).
Polish Club’s “How Dare You Fall in Love in This City” is out now. Heavy Weight Heart is out Friday, September 13th (pre-order vinyl here).
