Polish Club Enter New Era with Bold New Album

There’s heartfelt lyricism and a little bit of romance on Polish Club’s first independent release, but they haven’t lost their gritty rock edge either

Sydney’s powerhouse rock duo Polish Club are back with their highly anticipated fourth studio album, Heavy Weight Heart.

Independently released today, the album arrives alongside the focus single “Repeating Repeating,” complete with a lo-fi video that encapsulates the band’s raw energy and punchy sound.

The band — vocalist and guitarist David Novak and drummer John-Henry Pajak — will take the album on the road for their ‘Heavy Weight Heart National Album Tour’ in October, hitting Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane.

Tickets are already on sale, with New South Wales fans in for an extra treat this weekend, with in-store performances scheduled for Saturday, September 14th at Music Farmers in Wollongong and Sunday, September 15th at Impressed Records.

In what feels like a pivotal moment for the band, Novak reflects on the significance of this album. “This record feels like the closing of a really big chapter of both of our lives and careers,” he says, hinting at the duo’s journey from label signees to complete independence. “It also marks the start of a brand new, fully autonomous life for the band.”

Recorded at Golden Retriever Studios in Marrickville, Heavy Weight Heart came together over a few weeks in September 2023. The production was helmed by Golden Retriever Studios owner Simon Berckelman, with assistant engineer Yianni Adams, and writing contributions from Robby De Sa (known for work with MAY-A, Vera Blue, Gretta Ray, and grentperez) on tracks like “Manila,” “Heavyweight,” “I Belong to You,” and “How Dare You Fall in Love in This City.” There’s also a co-writing nod to Robby De Sa and Budo Miller on “Fool On The Weekend.”

Thematically, Heavy Weight Heart is deeply personal, especially for Novak, who underwent heart surgery in January 2024 after battling congenital heart disease. That looming operation fuelled the album’s lyrical introspection, alongside the joyful milestones of both band members’ recent weddings, with many of the tracks underlined with a dreamy, love-infused romanticism.

Despite the reflective undertones, Polish Club haven’t abandoned their gritty rock roots. “We thought this was going to be our last big label record, so we wrote a bunch of big stadium rock songs intended for a full band vibe,” says Novak. The result? An album that finds balance between tenderness and brashness, blending stadium-sized rock anthems with heartfelt lyricism.

“Repeating Repeating,” the fifth single off the record, serves as a perfect embodiment of that balance. “’Repeating Repeating’ is probably the most ‘Polish Club’ song on the record sonically,” says Novak. “Thematically it really speaks to a mantra that I’d love to not have to remind myself of as much as I do. Don’t waste your time.”

As Polish Club steps into this new era with Heavy Weight Heart, they remain as bold and unapologetic as ever. For fans, this record is not just another chapter—it’s a statement of survival, growth, and the raw, pulsating energy that has always defined their sound.
