With their debut album on the way, PLANET have shared their latest single alongside news of an east coast tour.

Just weeks after the announcement of their long-awaited debut album, Sydney outfit PLANET have unveiled both a new single and news of a forthcoming east coast tour.

Announcing the release of 12-track debut Information Overload last month, lead singer Matty Took explained that their upcoming record had been made almost undercover, in something akin to a “rock ‘n’ roll heist”.

“It was a bit of an Ocean’s Eleven sort of vibe,” Took explained. “I met this guy at a party. We were kind of on a bit of a bender and he was like, ‘I work at AIM [the Australian Institute of Music – a music and music industry tertiary school in the city centre of Sydney]. I do all the trouble shooting for their microphones. Man, no one’s using the studio, you should just come in and record.'”

While the band have given fans a few tastes of what to expect with their debut album (including the likes of the gorgeous “Ship Won’t Change” and “Resign”), new single “Need More” undeniably amps up the anticipation for Information Overload, with the guitar-driven track lyrically exploring the need for someone to fill the space in life meant for someone special.

“‘Need More’ has been in the vault for a few years but pretty much with only the pre-chorus done,” explains Took. “There were a few variations of it – slow, fast, folky… ultimately, we decided to revamp it with a fat beat and big guitar strums.”

“It’s the first time we’ve had a piano feature more prominently on a track,” adds guitarist Tommy Peppitt. “We also explored the synth world a bit and tried to push the song a bit further sonically. For me, it’s definitely a bit of a curveball track on the album and I can’t wait to play it live.”

The track also comes accompanied by a Paul Liddle-directed clip which pairs performance visuals with simplistic shots of the band casually sitting with their instruments.

“Out of all the singles, we wanted this track to have a clip that focused on lighting a bit more and re-creating that feeling of being at a live show,” PLANET explained. “It was directed by Paul Liddle and produced by Jeremy Hancock from HOWL production company. They took our simple idea and helped heaps in bringing it to life. Was a really fun clip to shoot.”

In addition to their upcoming album, PLANET have also announced an east coast tour of the country in March. With dates in Melbourne, Brisbane, and Sydney, the headline dates will precede a support slot for The Wiggles, and a trip over to the UK and Ireland for a 13-date tour later in the year. Full details are available below.
