Pickle Darling and Ryan Fisherman are teaming up for a solo tour this October.
The Aotearoa artists will bring their inventive indie-folk sounds to four cities. The tour starts in Nelson on October 12th, heads to Christchurch on October 19th, Wellington on October 26th, and finishes in Auckland on October 27th.
It’s the first solo tour for both, making it extra special for these close friends.
“This will my first ever solo tour, but also my last bunch of shows for a while before I hunker down and focus on finishing my next album (and a soundtrack I’m working on),” Pickle Darling shares. “I love playing solo, and I’ll be performing lots of new material as well as some old stuff I haven’t played in years!
“It’ll be a very intimate series of shows and I won’t really be sticking to the same setlist each night. But also this tour is mostly just an excuse for me and Ryan to hang out.”
Ryan Fisherman adds: “This will be my first ever Ryan Fisherman tour. I’ve toured with a bunch of other bands over the years, but never with my own material. The fact that I get to share a tour with Pickle Darling is a dream come true!”
Ōtautahi multi-instrumentalist Pickle Darling, aka Lukas Mayo, received a five-star review from Rolling Stone AU/NZ for their 2023 album Laundromat.
“Following in the grand tradition of Aotearoa bands like Tall Dwarfs, Mayo (as Pickle Darling) creates vulnerable lo-fi pop vignettes rich in small details,” our review praised. “Mayo has an Akerman-esque feel for quotidian beauty: art, they know, is everywhere in life, and their earnest existentialism flows right through Laundromat.”
Pickle Darling has supported acclaimed artists such as Lucy Dacus, The Beths, and Fontaines D.C. and is signed to the US label Father/Daughter Records.
Fisherman, aka multi-instrumentalist and producer Ryan Chin, is a familiar face in New Zealand’s indie scene. He is now exploring “new weird folk territory” after supporting artists like Julia Jacklin, Tiny Ruins, and Kane Strang.
