The Groovin The Moo festival tour traditionally covers an eclectic spread of genres; from hip-hop to metalcore, pop to rock; and 2017 is no exception, with the line-up covered over three stages and a dance area and featuring many from far and wide — electric-rocking K.Flay, punk iconics Against Me! from the U.S., electronic duo, Snakeships from the U.K. along with country bed-fellows, the hard-hitting alternative-rock act, The Wombats, metalcore smashers, The Architects, and the hilarious glam-rockers, The Darkness.
But some of the biggest crowd-pullers at the Bendigo leg of the tour on Saturday, May 6th were closer to home, including Blue Mountains hip-hop group, the Thudamentals, who over spilt the Moolin Rouge tent almost two-fold. Similarly, reformed Sydney electro-pop group, PNAU, delighted a large body of groovers, while indie rockers, the Smith Street Band and the Jungle Giants, smashed out tight sets on the Triple J stage, along with heavier headliners, Violent Soho, who closed out the night on the Cattleyard stage.
Unfortunately, there were also a couple of no-shows on Saturday. With earlier news of Tash Sultana performing a shorter set in Wayville and then missing Maitland altogether, it wasn’t too much of surprise she was absent again for the Bendigo leg. There was another disappointing late scratching with indie pop singer, Montaigne, announcing she was having throat problems and unable to perform on Saturday. It was a good day for Amy Shark though as she stepped up to a mainstage slot, continuing her amazing rise this year which, most recently, included debuting at #2 on the ARIA album charts.
