With just a few days to go until the 25th anniversary of the iconic Paul Kelly Christmas single “How to Make Gravy”, the beloved Aussie performer has unveiled dates for this year’s ‘Making Gravy’ concert series.

Somewhat disappointed by the events of 2020 causing a skip in the annual gigs, 2022 sees Kelly returning to the stage in full force for the seasonal shows, with Melbourne and Brisbane playing host to the events this year.

Taking place on December 9th and December 18th, respectively, Kelly will hit up Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl and Brisbane’s Riverstage for an evening that will see him joined by his band – comprising Vika and Linda Bull, Dan Kelly, Bill McDonald, Peter Luscombe, Ash Naylor, and Cameron Bruce – and an array of stunning supports, including Ball Park Music, Sycco, and Emma Donovan & The Putbacks.

“The band and I are really looking forward to getting back to some shows again after the disappointment of last year and the frustration of this,” Kelly said in a statement. “We have some extra Christmas content this year and a great line up of artists and guests to help us bring it all home.”

Indeed, the extra Christmas content that Kelly mentions likely refers to the release of his forthcoming album, Christmas Train, which – across 22 tracks – sees Kelly teaming up with the likes of Marlon Williams, Kasey Chambers, Kate Miller-Heidke, Waleed Aly, and more to create a festive record that features Latin hymns, well-known carols, Irish folk ballads, and a re-recording of “How to Make Gravy”, of course.

“There is a Hebrew hymn, an Arabic poem, folk songs, classical songs, rock songs,” Kelly explained. “Then the fun, and the challenge, is to get all those elements to work together.”

Tickets to Kelly’s ‘Making Gravy’ shows are on sale from Monday, November 8th, with a Frontier Members pre-sale kicking off later this week with full details available below.
