Myles Smith has touched down in New Zealand.
The British “Stargazing” hitmaker is on a sold-out tour that wraps up tonight at Auckland’s Powerstation (May 15th).
While here, Smith sat down with Rolling Stone AU/NZ to chat about his TikTok breakthrough, upcoming tour with Ed Sheeran, and his newfound love for Lorde.
“Is Lorde from Australia?” he asked, before quickly correcting himself. “Oh — New Zealand, right. I’ve been singing [lyrics from Lorde’s latest single] ‘what was that’ for the last two weeks straight.”
He also gave a shoutout to some favourite Australian artists. “I just discovered Ziggy Alberts — he’s awesome. And Tash Sultana’s been on repeat,” he said.

In Sydney, Smith stirred things up when his plans to busk in Pitt Street Mall ran into unexpected red tape. He had hoped to play a free pop-up street set, but the City of Sydney required him to get a busking license, provide ID, and queue with other performers from 7am to secure a slot — putting the brakes on the gig.
Still, he managed to play pop-up acoustic sets elsewhere — in Melbourne, outside the Sydney Opera House without any hiccups, and later in Brisbane.
Later that evening, 5SOS’s Luke Hemmings made a surprise appearance at Smith’s Sydney show. The duo closed out the night with an encore performance of “Stargazing” together.
Opening the sold-out Auckland gig is Aotearoa pop artist Will Swinton. Hailing from Auckland, Swinton was previously featured in our Up-And-Coming Aotearoa Artists series.
“With early comparisons to Sydney rapper The Kid LAROI and Canadian artist EKKSTACY, Will Swinton has already shown plenty of individual promise in just a handful of songs,” we wrote.
