As it nears two years since emo icons My Chemical Romance were set to make their live return to Australia, a series of pandemic-related reschedulings and cancellations has now seen the group add more dates to their forthcoming Australian tour.
Originally set to visit Australia as part of the Download Festival in March of 2020, the then-burgeoning COVID-19 pandemic and its related restrictions soon saw the festival – and, by extension – the New Jersey outfit’s local tour put on ice.
Since then, My Chemical Romance have valiantly tried to make their upcoming Australian tour work, with a run of dates even announced earlier this year for March of 2022. However, just weeks ago, the band explained that, due to the “uncertainty regarding international border restrictions and indoor venue capacity limits”, their first visit to the country since 2012 would now be taking place almost exactly three years after it was first supposed to occur.
Now though, the band have doubled down on their confidence that their Australian tour will indeed go ahead, going so far as to now announce three new shows for the trek.
Kicking off with a new show for Brisbane on March 13th, 2023, the new dates will complement the previously-announced shows, with the sold-out dates now paired with extra opportunities for fans to catch them live.
Though My Chemical Romance are yet to make any sort of announcement in regards to the possibility of new music, the band’s upcoming tour will be part of their extensive reunion plans which were first revealed back in 2019.
