Brisbane art-rock outfit Moreton are back with their latest single, sharing the transcendentally-gorgeous “Down & Out” today.
Following a string of singles back in 2019, Moreton made a long-awaited return in 2021 with an appearance on Jordan Rakei’s Late Night Tales instalment. Now, after a national tour with #1 Dads and a win with the APRA Professional Development Awards, Moreton are back with a stellar new track.
Dubbed “Down & Out”, the slow-burning piece of emotional rock sees the outfit working with Tom Iansek (Big Scary, #1 Dads, No Mono) and Sean Cook (Sharon Van Etten, Angel Olsen, St Vincent) on production to craft a track that is as fragile as it is powerful, and as brooding as it is exuberant. The result is a track which feels as though it’s bound with nervous energy, with an eruption of inimitable power just around the corner.
“We wanted the song to feel uneasy but beautiful, like how it is to worry about someone you deeply care about,” Moreton explain of the track. “It’s about the complexity of realising you’ve gone beyond each other’s reach. And the allure of recklessness & sabotage. Why does it feel so good to destroy things?”
With “Down & Out” undeniably serving as a taste of the many good things to come from Moreton, 2022 is clearly shaping up to be their year. With professional momentum on their side and a hunger to continue to deliver the goods at every turn, stay tuned for more brilliance from the great Moreton in the near future.
