Miley Cyrus is giving fans the best of both worlds, returning to her Mickey Mouse roots for the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, airing March 24 on Disney+.
The special will be filmed in front of a live studio audience and feature an in-depth interview between Cyrus and Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper. It’ll further feature never-before-seen archival footage and rebuilds of the show’s most memorable sets, like the Stewart family’s living room and the Hannah Montana closet.
Disney seemed to hint that Cyrus might perform some old Hannah Montana tracks, too, with the press release reading: “There will also be some familiar notes that find their way back into the spotlight.” Some of Hannah’s biggest hits were “Nobody’s Perfect,” “Supergirl,” and “If We Were a Movie.”
“Hannah Montana will always be a part of who I am,” Cyrus said in a statement. “What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans, and I’ll always be thankful for that connection. The fact that it still means so much to people all these years later is something I’m very proud of. This ‘Hannahversary’ is my way of celebrating and thanking the fans who’ve stood by me for 20 years.”
Cyrus has been teasing a heartfelt project to honor the show’s 20th anniversary for months. The show’s premiere episode, “Lilly, Do You Want to Know a Secret,” aired March 24, 2006, introducing the world to spunky teen Miley Stewart, living a secret double life as the world’s biggest pop star.
“I want[ed] to design something really, really special for it because it really was the beginning of all of this that now sits here today,” Cyrus told SiriusXM’s TikTok Radio in July. “Without Hannah, there really wouldn’t be this kind of… this me.”
